Strada

A DIGITAL TRAVEL MAGAZINE ABOUT FLORENCE, ITALY

Strada

A DIGITAL TRAVEL MAGAZINE ABOUT FLORENCE, ITALY

I created Strada as my parting capstone project at Syracuse University, pulling my studies and my passions together in one creative thesis. After spending a semester living in Florence, discovering what I could about the culture of the city, and trying to carve out my own niche there, I wanted to share my Firenze with other American students making the city their home.

I wrote, designed, photographed, and coded this digital publication, which covers everything from a look inside the shop of an artisanal Florentine woodworker to a mapped-out path through the best gelato joints in town. And while I'm not fluent—yet—the magazine is partially in Italian! Strada is available on tablets via the Best of Newhouse app.

SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY'S FIRST STUDENT-RUN FOOD MAGAZINE

I joined Baked in August as its co-editor in chief. After restructuring our editorial content and adding new verticals and columns, I got to work with pieces ranging from a package showcasing three passionate people changing the local food scene to the essential cocktails that will get you through the holidays with your extended family.

My team also worked on initiatives to extend our editorial vision beyond the pages of the magazine, developing some great behind-the-scenes videos, a vibrant Instagram presence, and food-filled events benefiting the Syracuse community. After we published this issue, Baked was named a regional finalist in the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence awards for best student magazine.

SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY'S CULTURE AND DIVERSITY MAGAZINE

I took over Medley as a sophomore with no team and no experience running a magazine. But after I recruited some committed editors and felt my way through the dark, my team came out on the other end with two issues and stories including a Syracuse neighborhood's street fair in photos and the anniversary of a local gallery filled with progressive community art.
